The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the anniversary, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
Minister urges Nigerians to promote unity

The minister said peace and stability remain necessary conditions for national development, urging citizens to emulate the country’s founding fathers by contributing to the building of a Nigeria that future generations can be proud of.
“As we celebrate 66 years of our independence, we should always remember that there is hope for our country and our diversity is our strength, and our collective determination remains the foundation upon which a stronger and more prosperous nation will be built,” he said.
He also described Nigeria’s human and natural resources as important assets to the country’s development.
