Court grants El-Rufai N100m bail over alleged phone interception case

The federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, in connection with alleged access to a telephone conversation involving Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA).

On Monday, trial judge Joyce Abdulmalik granted el-Rufai bail in the sum of N100 million, with one surety in the same amount.

Abdulmalik ruled that the surety has to reside in either the Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and provide the authentic Certificate of Occupancy of a Landed Property to the court registry.

In April, the former minister was charged with five counts of unauthorised access to a phone conversation involving Ribadu.

He pleaded not guilty on all counts.
