Morounke Olufemi takes over as Global CFO as Mitesh Popat exits to pursue a new venture.
Flutterwave has appointed former Access Holdings Group Chief Financial Officer Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer, in a leadership transition the fintech says will preserve continuity in its financial strategy.
The company announced the appointment on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, with Olufemi succeeding Mitesh Popat, who has stepped down after two years in the role to co-found a new venture.
Olufemi previously served as Flutterwave’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a position she took up in June 2025. In that role, she oversaw financial operations across more than 30 countries and worked closely with Popat on the company’s financial strategy.

Flutterwave Global CFO brings 24 years’ experience
Olufemi brings more than 24 years of experience spanning finance, banking, strategy and corporate leadership across multinational organisations.
Before joining Flutterwave, she was Group CFO of Access Holdings Plc, where she was involved in several major financial and strategic transactions.
According to Flutterwave, Olufemi played a role in raising $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023 and completing a major rights issuance programme in 2024 to support bank recapitalisation requirements.
She also led complex mergers and acquisitions that contributed to the creation of Nigeria’s second-largest Pension Fund Administrator, the company said.
Her appointment comes as Flutterwave continues to expand its payments and financial services infrastructure across Africa and international markets.
The company said its recent financial foundation includes late-stage funding rounds and strategic investments, including the acquisition of open-banking firm Mono.
Flutterwave Global CFO targets sustainable growth
Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, said Olufemi’s experience made her suited to lead the company’s global finance operations.
“Morounke has demonstrated that she is the financial leader we need at this moment,” Agboola said.
He also thanked Popat for his leadership and said the transition reflected the company’s approach to developing senior talent and future entrepreneurs.
Popat is stepping down to co-found Next Communications and will remain a strategic adviser to Flutterwave.
Olufemi said she would focus on capital discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability in her new role.
“I am excited to step into the global CFO role. Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course,” she said.
She added that Flutterwave would continue executing its strategy while giving global finance leaders greater control over working capital, alongside access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement.
Flutterwave said the leadership transition would not change its strategic priorities, capital allocation models or long-term financial goals.
The company said the transition comes as it continues developing its financial infrastructure to connect African businesses to the global economy.
