INEC warns time is running out for Nigerians to register or update voter details ahead of 2027 general election as third phase CVR closes Sunday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a final call to eligible Nigerians to complete their voter registration or update their voter information before the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise closes today, Sunday, July 26, 2026, warning that participation is a prerequisite for casting a ballot in next year’s general election.
The commission shared the update through a post on its official X account on Sunday, urging Nigerians to act before the deadline expires.
What services are available before the deadline closes
INEC said services available under the exercise include new voter registration, transfer of registration, correction of personal details, and replacement of lost or damaged permanent voter cards (PVCs). Prospective voters can complete their registration online through the CVR portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org or visit any of the commission’s state or local government area offices before the close of the exercise today.
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” INEC said.
“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”
The commission added that eligible voters should not wait until it is too late, underlining that registration is a mandatory prerequisite to voting in the 2027 general election.
A three-phase exercise spanning nearly a year
The CVR exercise began in August 2025 with the launch of the first phase, which opened with online pre-registration before moving to in-person registration on August 25. By the end of the first phase in December, INEC recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 in-person.
The second phase commenced on January 5 and ended on April 17, recording 3,748,704 completed registrations across the country. The third and final phase began in May 2026, with INEC extending the exercise by two weeks in July before confirming Sunday as the final closing date.
The commission’s decision to hold firm on Sunday’s deadline, despite the two-week extension already granted, signals that no further extensions will be offered. Nigerians who miss today’s cutoff will be ineligible to vote in the 2027 presidential and national assembly elections.
Eligible voters can register or update their details at cvr.inecnigeria.org or at any INEC state or LGA office before the deadline closes today.
“Your vote is your voice. Register today and be ready to decide tomorrow,” INEC said.
