X will end its Revenue Sharing programme on September 7, 2026, replacing it with Original Content Rewards as creators await new eligibility and payment details.
X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced it will discontinue its revenue sharing programme and replace it with a new “Original Content Rewards Program” for creators, with the transition taking effect in September 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday by the X Creators Team in a statement published on the platform.
What happens to your current earnings and when
For creators currently enrolled in the revenue sharing programme, the practical impact is immediate and time-sensitive. The existing programme will end on September 7, 2026, with earnings continuing to accumulate until that date. The final revenue sharing payout will be issued on September 11, 2026.
“If you’re currently enrolled in Revenue Sharing, you’ll continue earning through September 7, 2026, and your final Revenue Sharing payout will be issued on September 11, 2026,” the statement reads.
Applications for the Original Content Rewards Program will open on September 8, the day after the current programme closes, subject to creators meeting the eligibility requirements. Creators will be able to check their eligibility through Creator Studio under the Original Content Rewards section.
What the new programme requires and who qualifies

X said creators who have already completed identity verification and connected a valid payout method will not need to repeat the process when applying for the new programme.
“Once approved, you’ll continue earning under the Original Content Rewards Program and its Terms and Conditions,” the company said.
Full eligibility criteria for the Original Content Rewards Program have not been detailed in the announcement beyond the requirement to check through Creator Studio. X has not disclosed the reward rates or payment structure under the new scheme.
Why X says it is making the change
The company framed the shift as an evolution of how it values and compensates the creators who drive engagement on the platform.
“X has always been powered by people who share something only they can: breaking news, expert insights, unique experiences, creativity, and commentary that moves culture forward.
We want to reward the people who make X worth opening every day, so we’re evolving how creators earn here,” the statement reads.
The new programme’s name, Original Content Rewards, suggests X intends to move away from a model based purely on ad revenue sharing toward one that specifically incentivises original content creation, though the platform has not yet provided detailed criteria for what qualifies as original content under the new framework.
X introduced its revenue sharing programme in 2023 under owner Elon Musk as part of efforts to attract and retain creators on the platform following its rebrand from Twitter. The programme paid eligible creators a share of advertising revenue generated from ads displayed in replies to their posts, with payouts tied to impressions and subscription metrics. The shift to an Original Content Rewards model marks the first major structural change to creator monetisation on the platform since the programme launched.
