Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave, his first since taking office in May 2023, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave following the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

The leave, which began on Thursday, August 6, is Shettima’s first since he assumed office on May 29, 2023, according to a statement issued by the State House.

The Presidency said the Vice President would use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for public service.

According to the statement, the leave will also allow Shettima to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for upcoming responsibilities as the Federal Government continues implementing its Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office, Shettima has overseen and coordinated several government initiatives in areas including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also chairs the National Economic Council (NEC), which comprises the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior public officials. The council advises on policies affecting the economy and national development.

The statement added that Shettima has represented President Tinubu at various international and regional engagements focused on economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.

The Presidency said the Vice President is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave.
