Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 passengers abducted by suspected bandits during an attack along the Ayegunle–Bunu road in Kabba-Bunu LGA of Kogi State.
The army said the operation began after a distress call at about 03:30 on Monday, following reports that gunmen had blocked the highway and kidnapped travellers.
According to the military, the attackers fled before security forces arrived, but troops launched a pursuit operation along the suspected escape routes.
Security personnel recovered two Toyota commercial buses and a HOWO truck abandoned at the scene.

The army said two victims were killed in the attack, while five others sustained injuries and were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kabba for treatment.
It added that pressure from pursuing troops forced the kidnappers to abandon 23 captives, who were rescued unharmed.
Troops have continued search-and-rescue operations in the area to locate any remaining victims.
Earlier, Kogi Police Command spokesperson Saliu Oyiza said the abducted passengers included 26 men and four women.
