2027: Lagos, Kano, Kaduna top states by registered voters

INEC has listed Lagos, Kano and Kaduna among states with the highest registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan disclosed the figures on Tuesday in Abuja, saying the national register now stands at about 110 million voters following the three phases of the commission’s voter registration exercise.

Lagos Leads With 7.4 Million Registered Voters

Lagos tops the register with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina ranks fourth with 3,876,051 registered voters, while Rivers has 3,736,434. Oyo follows with 3,588,111, while Delta has 3,525,988 registered voters.

Benue occupies eighth place with 3,057,225 voters, followed by Ogun with 3,037,981 and Bauchi with 3,012,547.

Ekiti Has Fewest Registered Voters

At the other end of the register, Ekiti has the lowest number of registered voters with 1,055,708, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691.

Gombe has 1,768,566 registered voters, while Yobe has 1,733,641. The Federal Capital Territory has 1,732,043 registered voters, placing it among the states and territories with the smallest voter populations.

Men Make Up 51.75% Of Register

Amupitan said male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75 percent of the register, while female voters number 49,900,497.

Voters aged between 35 and 49 form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 people, representing 41.83 percent of the register. They are followed by voters aged 18 to 34, who number 29,777,576 or 28.79 percent.

Those aged 50 to 69 account for 22,982,900 voters, representing 22.22 percent, while voters aged 70 and above make up the smallest age group, with 7,402,291 or 7.16 percent.

The register also contains 232,658 persons with disabilities across 10 disability categories, accounting for roughly 0.2 percent of registered voters.
