Dangote refinery exports first petrol cargo to US

The first petrol shipment from Dangote refinery to the US has arrived.

According to sources at the refinery, the “vessel left the refinery for the US about two weeks ago”.

MyShipTracking, a vessel tracking site, reports that the shipment, dubbed Gemini Pearls, arrived in New York on Monday, citing the ship’s automatic identifying system (AIS).

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that Vitol, an international oil trader, and Sunoco, a North American fuel distributor, received the refinery’s first US shipment of petrol.

Reuters said the shipment, carried aboard the tanker Gemini Pearl, was discharged on Monday at Sunoco’s Linden terminal in New York Harbor.

According to the report, Vitol purchased Gemini Pearl’s cargo of around 320,000 barrels of fuel from Mocoh Oil, a Swiss business, and sold the majority of it to Sunoco.

However, the publication stated that oil was not immediately obvious “what volume Vitol sold to Sunoco and how much it will keep”.

According to Reuters, Glencore sold Shell a second shipment of petrol from the Dangote plant to the US onboard the vessel ‘MH Daisen,’ which is due to arrive in New York Harbour around September 19.

According to the magazine, Vitol’s third cargo, purchased from Mocoh, is being transported on the vessel ‘Seaexplorer,’ and is expected to arrive in New York Harbour around September 22.
