IGP extends tinted glass permit enforcement deadline to October 2

The inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, has extended the deadline for enforcing the tinted glass permit until October 2.

The IGP had extended the deadline to August 12 to allow the force to improve and polish the application procedure.

In a statement made on Monday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, stated that the decision will allow for “meticulous scrutiny” of applications to ensure that only qualified individuals are granted licenses in accordance with national security concerns.

According to Adejobi, the extension will also allow police to fine-tune digital and physical verification processes in order “to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse”.

He stressed that applications should only be submitted at possap.gov.ng and encouraged Nigerians to report incidences of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the police via the number 08147818871.

“This decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive,” the statement reads.

“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”

Adejobi stated that the IGP praised Nigerians for their cooperation, stressing that the initiative aims to strike a balance between public convenience and strong security measures.
