… Party Faces Leadership Crisis As Internal Struggles Intensify
Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejected attempts by the National Working Committee to suspend him, vowing to remain in his position until his tenure expires in December 2025.
The suspension, backed by a faction aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stems from allegations of anti-party activities and failure to curb defections.
Anyanwu, speaking in Abuja, accused the committee of undermining party unity and ignoring due process.
The internal clash, exacerbated by debates over the 2027 presidential zoning, threatens the PDP’s cohesion as it prepares for its national convention. Observers note that the ongoing leadership tussle could weaken the party’s position against the ruling APC in upcoming elections.
