EFCC clears immigration CG Nandap of any Connection to visa fraud investigation

The EFCC says Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap is not under investigation and has no connection to ongoing visa fraud cases involving some officers.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared that Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), is not under investigation and has no connection to the ongoing prosecution of immigration officers over alleged visa fraud.

The clarification was issued on Monday in a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, following media reports that suggested Nandap was being investigated alongside some officers of the service.

The commission was unequivocal in distancing the NIS chief from the ongoing cases.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap,” the statement reads.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”

While clearing Nandap, the EFCC confirmed that the prosecution of other NIS officers is active and that the dragnet could widen.

“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court. Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future,” Oyewale said.

“However, the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.”

The commission urged media organisations to seek clarification before publishing reports on its activities.
