How to get your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC): step-by-step registration process

The Independent National Electoral Commission has concluded the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations across the country.

The CVR exercise is being conducted in phases and the first phase commenced on August 18, 2025 and ended on December 19, 2025, while the second phase ran from January 5, 2026 to April 17, 2026. INEC announced that details of the third and final phase would be made public in due course.

Here’s how to register for your PVC:

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility and then Register on the website
You must be a Nigerian citizen who is at least 18 years old and a resident of the local government area where you intend to register. You must do your initial registration on INEC’s CVR website before going to the office for further registration.

Step 2: Visit Your Nearest INEC Office

Go to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registration centre closest to your place of residence. Registration is typically done at the local government level.

Step 3: Complete the Biometric Registration
At the centre, an INEC official will capture your biometric data, which includes your fingerprints, photograph, and signature. Ensure your hands are clean for accurate fingerprint capturing.

Step 4: Provide Your Personal Details
You will be required to supply accurate personal information, including your full name, date of birth, residential address, phone number, and occupation.

Step 5: Collect Your Temporary Voter’s Card (TVC)
After registration, you will receive a Temporary Voter’s Card as confirmation that your registration is being processed.

Step 6: Check Your Registration Status
You can track the status of your registration online at INEC’s official website (inec.gov.ng) or by visiting your registration centre.

Step 7: Collect Your PVC
Once your PVC is ready, you will be notified to return to your INEC registration centre with your TVC to collect it. Ensure you collect it before any upcoming election deadline.

Note: Registration exercises are typically announced publicly by INEC, so follow their official website and social media pages to stay informed about registration windows in your area.
