THE CIRCULAR: 3 THINGS

  1. Did you hear about Nigeria’s successful bid for the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund, a joint initiative of the WTO and the International Trade Centre (ITC) was successful. Earlier this year, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) was chosen, out of over 600 applicants, as one of four Business Support Organizations (BSOs) to implement the First Phase of the Fund, alongside Jordan, Dominican Republic and Mongolia.

2. At the BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil, Nigeria and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Health Collaboration, establishing a structured framework for cooperation in critical areas, including vaccine access and production, technical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and skills development. Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare signed on behalf of Nigeria, while Dr Alexandre Padilha, Minister of Health of the Federative Republic of Brazil signed for Brazil.

3. During the recent Official Visit to St. Lucia by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria and Saint Lucia signed a Technical Manpower Assistance (TMA) agreement outlining modalities for deploying skilled Nigerian professionals to Saint Lucia under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme. The goal is to, according to the Nigerian government, “deepen South-South cooperation and reconnect with the African diaspora in the Caribbean.” The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, signed on behalf of Nigeria, while Janelle Modeste-Stephen, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs, signed on behalf of St. Lucia.
