Wike sacks FCT-IRS acting chairman

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Michael Ango

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, acknowledged the situation in a statement released on Friday.

Following Ango’s dismissal, the FCT-IRS’s top official has been instructed to take over the leadership of the revenue agency right away.

As of the time this report was filed, no official reason has been provided for the decision.

Part of the statement reads,

“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Michael Ango.

“The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect.”

President Bola Tinubu approved Ango’s appointment as Acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS on August 9th, 2024, according to a statement by the former Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye.

Under his leadership, the Revenue Service recorded a revenue of N262bn in 2024, surpassing its target of N250bn and its previous revenue collection of N211.1bn for 2023.
