We’ll do everything to rescue Kebbi schoolgirls – Nasir Idris

The governor of Kebbi, Nasir Idris, has promised the parents of the abducted schoolgirls that his administration is entirely committed to their return.

The students were kidnapped on Monday from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Kebbi.

During the attack, the gunmen killed the vice-principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and seized 25 students.

Speaking on a visit to the scene, Idris stated that his journey to Maga was aimed to inspect the situation firsthand and reassure the bereaved relatives.

He condemned the act, calling it a disturbing assault on the community.

The governor said security operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and recover the missing girls.

“The unfortunate thing has already happened. They have abducted our children. We came here, we saw things for ourselves, and we met the parents whose children were taken,” Idris said.

“We gave them confidence, and we gave them our word that we will do everything possible to ensure that their children are rescued.

“We also assured them to remain confident, and that security agencies will do everything necessary.

“That is the essence of our coming to Maga — to see the people and give them confidence and words of encouragement.”

The state administration stated that it will continue to work with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local stakeholders until the girls are rescued and returned to their families.
