Tinubu holds first security meeting with new service chiefs

President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the newly appointed service heads at the State House.

Tinubu fired the former service chiefs last Friday, causing a huge shakeup in the nation’s military hierarchy.

The president appointed Olufemi Oluyede, a lieutenant general, as the new chief of defence staff, succeeding Christopher Musa. Oluyede previously served as the army’s chief of staff.

Waidi Shaibu, a major general, was designated new chief of army staff, while Sunday Kelvin Aneke, an air vice marshal, was appointed air chief.

Idi Abbas, a rear admiral, was designated mew naval chief, while Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye, a major general, remained chief of defence intelligence.

This is the second major change of the military command under Tinubu’s administration since he took office in May 2023.

The reforms occurred weeks after reports of a bungled coup attempt, which the military leadership have since refuted.
