For over four decades, Angélique Kidjo has been the beating heart of African music on the world stage.

Born in Cotonou, Benin, she has fused the rhythms of West Africa with funk, jazz, gospel, Latin, and Afrobeat influences. She sings in Fon, French, English, Yoruba, and Swahili, sometimes all in the same song.

She’s released 18 albums, collaborated with everyone from Alicia Keys and Philip Glass to Burna Boy and the Kronos Quartet, and become a global voice for humanitarian causes through her Batonga Foundation, which supports girls’ education across Africa. Time Magazine once called her “Africa’s premier diva,” and it’s hard to argue with that title when you look at the scale of her influence.

She’s a five-time Grammy Award winner, and in August 2026 she made history yet again by becoming the first African musician  and the first Black African to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
