Aina officially succeeds Ishaq Oloyede as JAMB registrar, pledging to strengthen examination integrity through technology and collaboration with security agencies

Professor Segun Aina has officially resumed duties as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede after the expiration of his two-term, 10-year tenure.

Aina assumed office on Friday at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, becoming the youngest person to serve as JAMB registrar.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Aina as substantive JAMB registrar in May 2026. His official resumption follows the completion of Oloyede’s tenure on July 31, marking the beginning of a new leadership phase at the examination body.

In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to preserve the integrity of JAMB’s examinations and expand the deployment of modern technology to curb examination malpractice.

He warned individuals involved in examination fraud to reconsider their activities, saying their “business is in a wrong institution”. He also said the board would continue working closely with security agencies to strengthen the credibility of its examinations.

JAMB integrity remains top priority

Aina said protecting the credibility of JAMB examinations would remain central to his administration.

He noted that technology would play a greater role in detecting malpractice and improving examination processes. He added that collaboration with law enforcement agencies would continue to ensure candidates and officials comply with examination rules.

The new registrar said JAMB would sustain reforms that strengthen public confidence in the board’s admission and examination processes.

JAMB registrar succeeds Oloyede after decade of reforms

Aina succeeds Ishaq Oloyede, who served as JAMB registrar for 10 years after his appointment in August 2016 and reappointment for a second term in 2021.

During Oloyede’s tenure, JAMB introduced several reforms, including expanded computer-based testing, biometric verification, stronger financial accountability and increased use of technology in admissions management.

The board also recorded higher annual remittances to the Federal Government and implemented measures aimed at improving transparency in its operations.

JAMB registrar brings technology expertise

The Presidency described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector institutional reform.

He is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and holds degrees from the University of Kent and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the Presidency, Aina previously served with JAMB during his National Youth Service, giving him early experience in examination administration before pursuing an academic career.

JAMB registrar faces evolving examination challenges

Aina assumes office as JAMB continues to oversee admissions into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the Central Admissions Processing System.

The board has increasingly relied on digital systems to improve examination security, candidate verification and admissions processing while responding to evolving forms of examination malpractice.

The incoming registrar’s emphasis on technology aligns with JAMB’s ongoing drive to strengthen the integrity, efficiency and credibility of its operations nationwide.
