Dangote offers N500,000 reward to curb illegal truck use

Dangote Industries has launched a N500,000 whistleblower reward to curb illegal use of its branded trucks for unauthorised haulage nationwide

Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has launched a whistleblower initiative offering a N500,000 cash reward to members of the public who provide credible information leading to the arrest of persons involved in the illegal use of its branded trucks.

The company said the move is part of efforts to curb unauthorised haulage activities and protect the integrity of its nationwide logistics operations.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, DIL urged the public to report suspected cases of its trucks being used to transport unauthorised goods or passengers, stressing that only specifically approved products are permitted on vehicles belonging to its subsidiaries.

What each Dangote truck is authorised to carry

According to the statement, Dangote Cement trucks are authorised to transport only cement, limestone, high-grade gypsum, coal and clinker, while Dangote Sugar Refinery trucks are restricted to sugar products.

Trucks belonging to NASCON Allied Industries are designated for Dangote Salt and DanQ Seasoning products. Dangote Packaging vehicles are meant to carry bags and packaging materials, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals trucks are approved for polypropylene products, while Dangote Fertiliser Limited vehicles are authorised to transport urea fertiliser.

The company warned that any truck found conveying unauthorised goods would be treated as engaging in illegal haulage, with drivers and owners of such goods risking arrest, confiscation of cargo and prosecution.

How the whistleblower reward scheme works

“Anyone with verifiable information that leads to the arrest of persons involved in illegal haulage activities or the recovery of unauthorised goods transported on Dangote trucks will receive a cash reward of Five Hundred Thousand Naira,” the statement read.

Dangote urged whistleblowers to provide details such as the truck type, registration plate number, cab number, location, description of the goods being transported, colour of the vehicle, and photographs where possible, to aid investigations.

The company said it has established dedicated hotlines across its operations, including at its Obajana, Okpella and Gboko plants, to receive reports of illegal haulage activities.

Law enforcement agencies, including the police, have been authorised to arrest drivers found using Dangote trucks for unauthorised commercial haulage, the group said.

Dangote reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against logistics-related fraud, saying the whistleblower programme is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and compliance across its logistics network.

“Public cooperation remains critical in our efforts to eradicate illegal haulage activities,” the company said. “We encourage anyone with credible information to come forward and help us maintain the integrity of our transportation system.”

DIL said the initiative is expected to protect its assets, promote lawful business practices and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
