FG begins final verification to settle unpaid severance benefits since 2005

Exercise covers former MDA and parastatal staff disengaged between 2005 and 2011, including next-of-kin of deceased beneficiaries and those who went to court.

The Federal Government has commenced a final verification exercise for the payment of severance benefits owed to disengaged staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and federal parastatals who left service between 2005 and 2011 without receiving their entitlements.

The exercise was announced in an official notice issued jointly by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), who are coordinating the exercise in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Who qualifies for verification

Verification

The verification covers three categories of claimants: officers disengaged between 2005 and 2011 who are yet to receive their severance benefits; next-of-kin of deceased beneficiaries who were disengaged during the same period; and individuals who instituted court cases over the non-payment of their entitlements.

Representatives of the affected MDAs and parastatals will be present at the designated centres nationwide to identify and authenticate beneficiaries and verify submitted documents.

Six zonal centres, July to August 2026

The exercise will be conducted across six geopolitical zones between July and August 2026, with each zone assigned a specific Federal Pay Office and date window:

  • South-West: Federal Pay Office, No. 14 Broad Street, Lagos — July 20 to July 24
  • South-South: Federal Pay Office, Federal Secretariat, Okpanam Road, Asaba, Delta State — July 27 to July 31
  • South-East: Federal Pay Office, No. 1 Egerton Street, Old GRA, Enugu — August 3 to August 7
  • North-East: Federal Pay Office, Bauchi Road, opposite former Gombe Park, Gombe — August 10 to August 14
  • North-West: Federal Pay Office, Audu Bako Federal Secretariat, Kano — August 17 to August 21
  • North-Central: Federal Pay Office, Makurdi Road, Phase II, Lafia, Nasarawa State — August 24 to August 28

What beneficiaries must bring

The government directed all beneficiaries to appear in person with original copies and one photocopy of the following documents: valid bank account details, identity cards issued by their former organisations, and a valid means of identification such as an international passport, National Identity Card or driver’s licence.

Context

The verification exercise is aimed at settling outstanding severance benefits for former federal workers who were disengaged between 2005 and 2011 and have yet to receive their entitlements.

It also covers the next-of-kin of deceased beneficiaries and individuals who took legal action over the non-payment of their benefits.

With the exercise spanning six weeks across all geopolitical zones and closing in late August, beneficiaries have a narrow window to present themselves. Those who miss the zonal verification dates risk further delays in claims that have already waited over a decade for resolution.
