Yusuf Buhari declares interest in house of reps seat in 2027

Bashir Ahmad, the late Muhammadu Buhari‘s former special assistant on digital communications, claims Yusuf, the ex-president’s son, has expressed his desire to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2027.

On Monday night, there was widespread chatter on social media about Yusuf’s alleged interest in a House of Representatives position.

Yusuf notified stakeholders of his plan to run for the federal legislature seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua district on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform in a letter dated April 3 that he reportedly signed.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter reads.

Ahmad confirmed the announcement in a post on his X page, stating that the decision was made after significant engagement with stakeholders.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

Yusuf Buhari is the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 and remains a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape. Since his father left office, very little has been heard about Yusuf, making his declaration to contest the House of Representatives seat his most prominent political move to date.
