Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto state, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.
In a letter dated March 11 and written to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri, the senator who represents Sokoto south in the upper legislative chamber blamed the “persistent internal crisis” and “ongoing conflicts” inside the PDP.
He indicated that he will pitch a tent with the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal further stated that his choice “followed deep reflection” and “extensive consultations”.
“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” the letter reads.
“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”
The former speaker of the House of Representatives expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to serve Nigeria in various capacities.
He added that his choice was motivated by his belief that Nigeria deserves a “stronger political platform based on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.”
The legislator reiterated his dedication to serving Nigeria and the ideas of democracy, justice, and national unity.
