FAAN to begin cash, card payment option at airport access gate from March 13

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will launch a hybrid payment system at airport access gates across the country, accepting both cash and electronic payments, starting from March 13, 2026.

Tunde Moshood, the minister’s special assistant on media and communications, stated that the decision came after the suspension of the full cashless access gate payment system, which caused traffic jams at some airports.

The suspension was directed by President Bola Tinubu.

Following the president’s instructions, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, directed FAAN to suspend the cashless system and resume the former arrangement.

He also suggested that a hybrid method may be employed for individuals who already have the FAAN card.

According to the statement, Keyamo met with FAAN officials and top ministry officials to review the system’s initial setup and operational challenges observed.

“The ministry has resolved to engage concessionaires in order to introduce a fully automated or electronic system at access gates at the airport in order to fully and eventually eliminate cash payment,” Moshood said.

“In the meantime, a hybrid payment system that accommodates both cash and card payments will resume at all airport access gates with effect from Friday, March 13, 2026.
