Dele Momodu Resigns From PDP Cites Hijack By Anti-Democratic Forces

Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as the total collapse of internal democracy within the party.

In a letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu said his decision followed deep concerns over the direction the party has taken.

According to him, the PDP has “been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.” He noted that the situation runs contrary to the ideals on which the party was founded and which once made it a viable platform for democratic engagement.

“This is not the PDP we once believed in. The level of manipulation and disregard for democratic principles is disheartening,” Momodu wrote.

Momodu, who joined the PDP in 2021 and contested the party’s presidential primary in 2022, has been an outspoken advocate for internal reforms and greater transparency in party processes. His resignation adds to growing concerns over internal wrangling within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As of the time of this report, the PDP leadership had not issued an official response to his resignation.
