Lagos Police Ease Election Day Restrictions to 6am-3pm for Medical, Travel Needs

The Lagos State Police Command has revised movement restrictions for tomorrow’s local government elections, shortening the window from the originally planned 12-hour ban to a 9-hour period. The new order now prohibits vehicular and waterway movement from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, rather than the initially announced 3:00 a.m. start time.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin explained the adjustment aims to accommodate residents with urgent medical needs and travelers with confirmed international flights. “We recognize some citizens have critical health appointments or long-scheduled trips that can’t be postponed,” Hundeyin stated. The Command maintains its 3:00 p.m. end time to ensure security during vote counting.

All 57 LGAs and LCDAs will participate in the elections, with Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh vowing “maximum security deployment” at polling units. Authorities urged voters to walk to nearby polling stations and report suspicious activity via emergency numbers 08063299264 or 08065154338. The revised order exempts election officials, security personnel, and accredited observers with proper identification.
