Nigeria Signs Landmark Technical Cooperation Pact With Saint Lucia

Tinubu’s Diplomacy Bears Fruit as NTAC Deploys Professionals to Caribbean Nation

Nigeria has expanded its technical diplomacy reach with the signing of a bilateral agreement to deploy skilled professionals to Saint Lucia for a two-year knowledge exchange program.

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) Director-General, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, and Saint Lucia’s Acting Permanent Secretary for External Affairs, Janelle Modeste-Stephen, formalized the partnership on July 2 in Castries.

Under the agreement, Nigerian teachers, medical experts, agriculturists and other professionals will contribute their expertise to Saint Lucia’s development while reconnecting with the African diaspora. The Tinubu administration will fund volunteers’ allowances and logistics, with the host nation providing accommodation and local support.

“This landmark agreement fulfills President Tinubu’s vision for South-South cooperation,” stated DG Yakub, praising the President’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in technical diplomacy. The pact marks Nigeria’s first major technical cooperation venture with an Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) member.

The initiative strengthens bilateral ties while creating opportunities for Nigerian professionals to gain international experience.

The first batch of volunteers is expected to deploy to Saint Lucia before the end of the third quarter of 2025.
