The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination.
Ibrahim Wushishi, the NECO registrar, announced the results on Tuesday in Minna, Niger state, stating that pupils underwent evaluation in 16 subjects.
Wushishi reported that 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, including 51,823 males (53.43 percent) and 45,156 females (46.56 percent).
He reported that 95,160 candidates eventually took the exam, with 50,785 men (53.36 percent) and 44,375 girls (46.63 percent).
Wushishi reported that 73,167 candidates received credit passes or above, accounting for 78.32 percent of the 93,425 pupils.
He said that 85,256 (91.35 percent) of the 93,330 applicants who wrote mathematics received credit passes or higher.
Wushishi reported that 68,166 candidates, or 71.63 percent, received five credits or higher, including English language and mathematics, while 82,082 candidates, or 86.26 percent, received five credits or higher, regardless of the two compulsory subjects.
The NECO registrar reported that 9,016 candidates were sanctioned for examination misconduct, a 2856 rise over 2024.
He further stated that the agency had blacklisted five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo for allegedly supporting examination malpractice.
He further stated that four test centers in Niger, Yobe, and Kano have been recommended for de-recognition due to “involvement in mass malpractice”.
Candidates seeking admission to higher institutions in Nigeria and abroad might improve their academic qualifications through the examination.
Wushishi welcomed the results as “another milestone” in NECO’s mission to give credible assessments to Nigerian pupils.
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support for the educational sector.
The NECO boss went on to say that the 36 states owe the agency less than N2 billion.
The 2025 SSCE examination took place between November 26 and December 13, 2025. The marking took place between January 5 and January 21, 2026.
