Four killed in new bandit attack in Niger State community

Four people were killed when suspected bandits raided Damala village in the Woko area of Borgu LGA, Niger state.

The incident came only one week after militants massacred at least 42 people in Borgu and neighbouring Agwara Local Government Areas.

TheCable reports that the most recent assault occurred approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, after the villagers had retired for the night.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger police command, confirmed the incident, stating that around four people were murdered.

“On 10th Jan, 2026, within the early hours of the day, a report received indicated that suspected armed bandits attacked Damala Village, via Woko District Borgu LGA, rustled some cattle and about four persons lost their lives during the attack within the village,” Abiodun told TheCable.

The police spokesperson said some shops were set ablaze during the attack.

“Security agencies visited the scene, clearance operations are ongoing, and monitoring continues,” he added.

On January 4, President Bola Tinubu directed the military, police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to go after and arrest individuals involved for the attack on the Kasuwan Daji village in Niger state.

Tinubu also told locals that security services had been asked to step up operations in vulnerable localities, notably those near woodlands frequented by criminal gangs.
