Muhammad Zuru, speaker of the Kebbi state house of assembly, is dead.
Murtala Diri announced Zuru’s death in a statement released on Tuesday on behalf of the Kebbi state assembly.
Zuru, also known as Lifiddan Zuru, died on Monday evening in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment.
The politician represented the Zuru constituency and was an influential member of the Zuru emirate.
“His death is a significant loss to his constituents; the state’s legislative body; the political community; as well as the state and the country in general,” the statement reads.
Diri stated that Zuru’s family and the Kebbi state administration will publish additional details about his burial plans.
Kabir Tukura, a legislator representing the Zuru, Fakai, Sakaba, and Danko-Wasagu federal constituencies in the House of Representatives, referred to Zuru as the “epitome of kindness, generosity, and humility” in a statement.
“His death is a loss not to the family alone, but to the good people of Kebbi, where he has served with uttermost commitment and dedication to duty, particularly the Zurians whose interests were represented diligently,” the statement reads. Kebbi,
Turaka, who chairs the house committee on FCT area councils and related matters, expressed condolences to Zuru’s family and the people of Kebbi state, calling him an “obedient son of his soil.”
