LIRS extends individual tax filing deadline to April 14

The deadline for filing individual yearly income tax returns has been extended to April 14 by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).

LIRS requested on February 25 that Lagos individual taxpayers submit their yearly tax returns for the 2026 assessment year by March 31 at the latest.

However, Ayodele Subair, executive chairman of LIRS, stated in a statement issued on Monday by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, head of corporate relations, that the extension from the March 31 deadline provides taxpayers additional time to finish their forms.

Subair stated that tax compliance should be viewed as a regular duty and that people should prioritise filing their taxes on time.

The extension, he continued, is meant to allow taxpayers to file correct and error-free returns.

The chairman said that manual files have been entirely phased out and that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform is still the sole authorised way to submit yearly retums.

“Individuals are therefore required to file their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net,” he added.

The chairman described the platform as “secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7”.

“Individuals to ensure that their TaxID (Tax Identification Number) is correctly captured in their submissions,” the LIRS chairman added.

Subair recommended that anybody in need of help visit any of its offices or contact the company via its appropriate channels.
