Since President Donald Trump returned to the White House for a second term in January, the US State Department says it has revoked more than 100,000 visas.
The State Department reported in November 2025 that 80,000 visas had been revoked since January.
The majority of the revocations were business and tourist travelers who had overstayed their visas.
According to an X post on Monday, 8,000 of the revoked visas were held by students, while another 2,500 specialised workers lost their legal status.
A department official also stated that the majority of the students and workers whose visas were canceled had criminal interactions with law enforcement.
According to a department official, about 500 students lost their visas for drug possession and distribution, while hundreds of foreign workers lost their visas for alleged child abuse.
Half of the revocations for specialised workers were due to drunk driving offenses.
Last August, the Trump administration said that it will review all 55 million foreigners with valid US visas.
“We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe,” the state department wrote in the X post.
When Trump began his second term, he announced a national emergency at the southern border and promised to combat “illegal” immigration.
The US has recently tightened visa requirements, announced changes to visa procedures, and imposed travel restrictions on a number of nations, including Nigeria.
