INEC begins second phase of nationwide voter registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) drive, kicking off the second phase of the procedure.

The resumption, which took effect today, follows the completion of the first phase of the CVR, which officially ended on December 10, 2025.

INEC began online pre-registration for the exercise on August 18, 2025, with in-person registration at specified centres around the country beginning on August 25, 2025.

In a December statement, the commission said that 9,891,801 Nigerians began online pre-registration during the first round of the operation.

As of November 28, 2025, INEC reported that 2,572,054 registrations had been completed nationwide, with 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 physical registrations combined.

The commission stated that the time between the two phases was used to carry out statutory tasks required by law, such as the presentation of the voter register for claims and objections.

“In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was held from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise was conducted,” INEC said.

The electoral body advised eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the resumption by registering, transferring voting places, or updating personal information.

INEC also urged eligible voters who registered during the first phase of the procedure to continue verifying their information, reporting inaccuracies, and objecting to the inclusion of ineligible or deceased individuals on the voters’ list.

The commission did, however, highlight that CVR activities are still suspended in Anambra state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities in both places.

According to INEC, new dates for resuming voter registration in Anambra and the FCT will be announced in due time.
