Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez is now joint top scorer in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, alongside Morocco’s Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi.

The trio has each scored three goals thus far in the tournament, putting them at the top of the scoring leaderboard heading into the knockout phase.

Mahrez, Diaz, and El Kaabi are now ahead of numerous well-known strikers, including Senegal’s Nicolas Jackson, Tunisia’s Elias Achouri, and Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, among others.

With the Round of 16 matchups due to take place from Saturday to Tuesday, the race for the Golden Boot is likely to heat up as the competition enters its last round.
