President Bola Tinubu has sent condolences to British–Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua after a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that killed two of his close associates and team members.

The President also confirmed the identities of the deceased after the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his associates rammed into a stationary truck along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

Tinubu revealed that the victims — Kevin Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his long-time friend and strength and conditioning coach — died at the scene of the accident.

Joshua survived with minor injuries and was taken to a Lagos hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The President said he had personally spoken with the boxer, extended his sympathies, and prayed for his quick recovery while commiserating with the families of the deceased.

“AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care,” Tinubu writes.

“I also spoke with his mother and prayed for her. She was deeply appreciative of the call.”

Following Joshua’s knockout victory over Jake Paul, the former heavyweight boxing champion and his two close companions arrived in Nigeria a few days ago for vacation.

Latif and Joshua uploaded a video on Instagram of themselves playing table tennis barely six hours before the terrible tragedy.
