Dangote Petroleum Refinery has started nationwide sales of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) at a pump price of N739 per litre at all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations, marking a significant milestone in the refinery’s mission to provide affordable fuel to Nigerians while also stabilising the downstream petroleum markets.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the company noted that with over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, the new pricing is scheduled to be introduced throughout all outlets, ensuring that the advantages of the reduction reach consumers across the country. The refinery praised marketers who have adopted the new pricing structure and encouraged others to do the same to help revive the country’s economy.
“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced price at the pump. We call on others to join this effort as a show of support for Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the refinery stated.
Historically, the festive season in Nigeria has been marked by fuel scarcity and price hikes. However, the Dangote refinery has acted decisively, lowering pump prices at a time when Nigerians are generally bracing for hardship. With a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres, this project radically changes supply dynamics over the Christmas season.
By refining locally at scale, the refinery reduces Nigeria’s vulnerability to volatile global markets, conserves foreign cash, stabilizes the naira, and strengthens energy security.
Households, companies, and transportation operators around the country are benefiting from the ongoing price reductions and consistent supplies.
The refinery also issued a sharp warning against unscrupulous operators attempting to create fake scarcity in reaction to the price cut, urging government agencies to take prompt action.
“Any attempt to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply to frustrate recent price reductions is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We urge regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take firm action against such practices, especially during this critical festive period,” the statement added.
Consumers were warned not to buy petrol at inflated costs when cheaper, higher-quality alternatives are freely accessible.
“We encourage Nigerians to avoid buying PMS at excessively high prices when they can access locally refined fuel at ₦739 per litre from over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide. Report any MRS station selling above ₦739 per litre by calling 0800 123 5264,” the refinery said.
The company also urged other petrol station operators to buy its products so that the price drop affects all Nigerians, assuring widespread relief and a more stable downstream market.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to consistent supply, price stability, and energy security, underlining that its activities are guided by long-term national interests rather than short-term market pressures.
“Our objective remains clear: to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices for Nigerians, while supporting economic stability and reducing dependence on imports,” the refinery concluded.
