One hundred and thirty kids abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger state, have been released.
The pupils were allegedly released on Friday between the Agwara and Borgu LGAs in the state.
On November 21, gunmen entered the school on motorcycles, capturing 315 people — 303 children and 12 instructors — in a three-hour operation.
50 students fled during the first 24 hours, leaving 265 abductees, including all 12 teachers, in custody.
On December 7, the federal government successfully obtained the release of 100 pupils.
The rescue came after increased military efforts, aircraft surveillance across Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states, and the deployment of community hunters into the jungles.
President Bola Tinubu had delayed planned international visits to personally monitor the reaction, which resulted in the prolonged suspension of Niger state schools and some federal institutions in high-risk locations.
