Tinubu adds Ibas, Dambazau to ambassadorial nominees

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers state and a former naval chief, as a non-career ambassador.

Tinubu also appointed Ita Enang, a former senator, Chioma Ohakim, former Imo state first lady, and Abdulrahman Dambazau, a former minister of interior and chief of army staff, as non-career ambassadors.

Their names were not among the initial batch of ambassadorial nominations disclosed by the presidency.

Tinubu’s fresh nominations were sent in a letter presented on the Senate floor by Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.

In the communication, the president encouraged Congress to give the nominees prompt consideration so that the administration could fill vital diplomatic positions.

Akpabio then submitted the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing that the panel complete its vetting process and report back to the chamber within one week.

The president has named Reno Omokri, a former presidential assistant, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, and Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as ambassadors.
