The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the completion of the first phase of the ongoing nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) initiative.
The commission launched online pre-registration on August 18 and in-person registration on August 25.
Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC’s director of voter education and publicity, announced on Wednesday that 9,891,801 Nigerians had registered online since pre-registration began.
As of November 28, Eta-Messi reported that 2,572,054 registrations had been completed nationwide, with 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 physical registrations.
She stated that the first phase of the CVR will formally end on December 10, and that the second phase will commence on January 5, 2026, in accordance with previously disclosed timelines.
She stated that, in compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the voter register for claims and objections shall be displayed from December 15 to 21 at the LGA offices where the CVR exercise was undertaken.
Eta-Messi urged eligible citizens, particularly those who had recently registered, changed voting places, or updated their information, to take advantage of the chance to double-check their information, report problems, and draw attention to ineligible or deceased voters.
Eta-Messi also reminded Nigerians that registration activities in Anambra state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are remain suspended due to ongoing electoral activities.
She further stated that fresh dates for the CVR in both sites would be notified in due time.
