The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained 12 individuals in connection with a violent robbery at Unique Apartment in Gishiri Village, Katampe District, that killed an Arise News staff member, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami.
According to police spokespersons, the suspects were detained on the instructions of the FCT Commissioner of Police following the attack on September 29, 2025.
The operation was directed by ACP Victor Godfrey of the Scorpion Squad, with digital and reconstructive intelligence provided by Giga Forensics, an EIB STRATOC subsidiary.
Shamsudeen Hassan, from Katsina State’s Malumfashi Local Council; Hassan Isah, 22, from Zaria, Kaduna State; Abubakar Alkamu (alias Abba), 27, from Musawa Local Council, Katsina; and Sani Sirajo (alias Dan Borume), 20, from Malumfashi, Katsina. Mashkur Jamilu (alias Abba), 28, of Igabi, Kaduna; Suleiman Badamasi (alias Dan-sule), 21, of Malumfashi, Katsina; Abdul Salam Saleh (alias Na-durudu), of Katsina Local Council; Zaharadeen Muhammad (alias Gwaska), 23, of Chikun, Kaduna; and Musa Adamu (alias Musa Hassan), 30, of Malumfashi, Katsina. Sumayya Mohammed (alias Baby), 27, of Sammaka, Kaduna; Isah Abdulrahman (alias Abbati), 25, of Zaria, Kaduna; and Musa Umar (alias Small), 31, of Maiduguri, Borno State, are also in detention.
Four suspects were first located and taken into custody through phone surveillance soon after the heist, according to police sources. On October 8, eight more were apprehended in Maitama apparently preparing a new heist.
Hassan confessed to shooting the security guard during questioning, and Sirajo acknowledged attempting to save Maduagwu from going from the three-story structure. According to reports, the gang divided N200,000 from the theft of a white Honda CR-V. Nine torchlights used in the attack, 36 rounds of 9mm ammo, a locally manufactured pistol, a pump-action gun, two live cartridges, four stolen phones, two knives, a cutlass, and a fake AK-47 rifle are among the recovered goods.
Investigations to capture other syndicate members are still underway, police said, adding that exhibits, such as a seized AK-47 discovered close to Zuma Rock, have been recorded. Until more arrests are made, the suspects’ photos are still being kept secret.
