Hilda Baci completes GWR attempt for largest jollof rice pot

Hilda Baci, a celebrity chef, has finished her quest to make the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice in a bid to break the Guinness World Record.

The chef began preparing the jollof rice just after 3 p.m. on Friday at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos.

The attempt was made in a six-meter-wide custom-built pot that took a 300-person culinary team two months to complete.

For the record, Baci used a recipe that included 4,000kg of rice (200 bags), 500 cartons of tomato paste, and 600kg of onions, with almost 2,000 people in attendance to celebrate and sample the record-breaking Jollof.

The audience included celebrities, dignitaries, and royals. The recognised faces were Spyro, Funke Akindele, Enioluwa, Peller, dancer Kaffy, and media personality Tomike Adeoye.

They were accompanied by Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, Oba Oniru’s wife, Folagade ‘Mama Deola’ Banks, and Alex Unusual.

Many people contributed to the work by stirring the enormous pot or pouring ingredients to help with the cooking.

By 2 a.m., the highly awaited Jollof was ready. Takeaway packs were distributed, ensuring that everyone there had a taste of the record-breaking supper.

However, the enormous pot shattered during the weighing operation, causing a momentary setback, but the measurement was eventually obtained.

Her achievement is now subject to verification and confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR).

Baci had earlier described the attempt as a vibrant festival of Nigerian culture, music, and community spirit.

The chef first gained fame in May 2023 when she set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

However, Irish chef Alan Fisher later surpassed her record in November of the same year.
