US President Donald Trump has slammed Israel’s latest bombing on Hamas in Doha, Qatar.
Trump described the attack as a unilateral decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that jeopardises both Israeli and American interests.
On Tuesday, Trump stated via his Truth social media platform that the strike on the Hamas bureau, which is located in a portion of Qatar’s capital, was not sanctioned by his government.
He underlined Qatar’s status as a sovereign nation and strong partner of the United States, applauding its efforts to promote regional peace.
“This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu; it was not a decision made by me,” Trump wrote.
“Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel or America’s goals.”
While admitting the urgency of destroying Hamas, which he portrayed as profiteering from Gazans’ suffering, Trump voiced concern about the attack’s location.
Trump stated that he promptly authorised Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, to notify Qatari officials of the planned strike, pointing out that the warning came too late to halt the attack.
Trump demanded the quick release of the captives and the bodies of the deceased, urging an end to the war.
The US president stated that following the strike, he spoke with Netanyahu, who expressed a wish for peace.
Trump also stated that he had communicated with Qatar’s Emir and Prime Minister, thanking them for their support and friendship.
Trump guaranteed that such an incident would not happen again on Qatari soil and revealed that he had asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to conclude a defence cooperation pact with the Arab country.
“I view Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the U.S. and feel very badly about the location of the attack. I want ALL of the Hostages, and bodies of the dead, released, and this War to END, NOW!,” he wrote.
“I also spoke to prime minister Netanyahu after the attack. The prime minister told me that he wants to make peace. I believe this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for PEACE.
“I also spoke to the Emir and prime minister of Qatar and thanked them for their support and friendship to our Country. I assured them that such a thing will not happen again on their soil.”
Trump had given Hamas a “final warning” to accept his peace agreements on Sunday.
