EFCC declares ex-Abia commissioner wanted over ‘funds diversion’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has proclaimed Christopher Enweremadu, a former Abia state commissioner, wanted for allegedly diverting public monies, theft, and money laundering.

In a notification issued by the EFCC‘s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency urged the public to submit relevant information concerning Enweremadu’s whereabouts.

“The public is hereby notified that CHRISTOPHER ENWEREMADU, whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing and money laundering,” the notice reads.

“Christopher Enweremadu is 58 year-old indigene of Abia State and his last known address is: Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Umuahia Abia State.”

Enweremadu worked as the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters during the administration of Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Abia state.

The EFCC has been investigating Enweremadu for suspected theft of local government monies in Abia state.

In December 2024, a federal capital territory (FCT) high court ordered the EFCC to take his international passport due to charges of financial embezzlement for 17 LGAs between 2019 and 2023.

The court directed the EFCC to provide a certified true copy (CTC) of the investigation report on funds allocated to 17 LGAs in Abia between 2019 and 2023.
