Tinubu orders transfer of Surveyor-General’s Office to Presidency

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to the Presidency.

The directive, issued during the 150th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the State House in Abuja, is expected to enable the seamless actualisation of legacy projects such as the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighways.

The Office of the Surveyor-General, which currently operates as an extra-ministerial department, was placed under the Federal Ministry of Works following a Federal Executive Council resolution in April 2005.

Its transfer to the Presidency marks a significant structural shift aimed at enhancing inter-agency coordination on major development initiatives.

The move is also consistent with the administration’s reform program and its increased dependence on geospatial intelligence for planning, infrastructure development, and security mapping.

President Tinubu said the move was necessary to accelerate the pace of project implementation and ensure efficient service delivery.

“We need to stimulate growth in the rural areas and do what will benefit the people,” he stated.

The order also seeks to improve geospatial data management and provide greater direct monitoring of national mapping and land administration agendas.

The OSGoF is the country’s official mapping agency, responsible for providing geospatial information, data, and services.
