Federal Government Approves N712 Billion For Lagos Airport Terminal Overhaul

… Rehabilitation Project To Modernize Murtala Muhammed International Terminal One

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N712 billion for the full rehabilitation, upgrade, and modernization of International Terminal One at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the project, awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will strip the terminal to its core and rebuild it with new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems over 22 months, funded by the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.

The plan also includes a N49.9 billion perimeter fencing project with intrusion detection and CCTV, enhancing security.

Additional approvals cover Terminal Two expansion, runway upgrades at Kano and Port Harcourt airports costing N46.39 billion and N42.14 billion respectively, and a N44.13 billion airfield lighting upgrade in Lagos, all targeting Category Two standards.

A N24.27 billion apron reconstruction in Lagos will ease aircraft traffic over 17 months. FEC also greenlit a 30-year concession for Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, aiming to leverage private sector expertise for profitability.

The Minister of Power secured N213.7 billion for electrification projects, including N145 billion for the Energising Education Programme to power universities like Lagos and Ibadan, and N68.7 billion for rural agribusiness clusters.

The Minister of Works announced N900 billion in road projects, including the Keffi Flyover reconstruction after a tragic collapse, and highways like Enugu-Onitsha at N150 billion. The approvals reflect a broad infrastructure push, with stakeholders awaiting detailed project updates.
