… Appointments Set Stage For September 2025 Student Intake

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Pro-Chancellor, governing council members, and principal officers for the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.
Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a Management and Organisational Behaviour expert from the South-South who previously taught at the University of Port Harcourt, will serve as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Prof. Chinedu Mmom, also from the South-South and a former Rivers State Commissioner for Education with expertise in Geography and Environmental Management, is the Vice-Chancellor.
The council includes Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West), ensuring regional diversity. Other key appointees are Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (Registrar, South South), Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (Bursar, North Central), and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (Librarian, South South).
The university, established by law signed on February 3, 2025, will focus on environmental science, technology, and sustainable development, with its first cohort of students slated for September 2025.
Preparations include curriculum development and infrastructure setup, with the government committing funds for faculty recruitment and facility upgrades. Local leaders in Ogoni welcomed the appointments, seeing them as a boost to regional education and environmental advocacy.
The university aims to address ecological concerns in the Niger Delta, with plans for research centers on oil spill mitigation. Stakeholders anticipate the institution will enhance Nigeria’s academic standing, though some have called for timely funding to meet the enrollment deadline.
