… Deputy Controller-General To Take Charge from Mid-August
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), effective August 14, 2025.

The decision, announced by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, follows the impending retirement of the current Controller-General, Engr. Jaji Olola Abdulganiyu, who will step down in mid-August upon reaching the statutory retirement age of 60. Adeyemi, previously the Deputy Controller-General overseeing Administration and Supply at FFS Headquarters, brings extensive experience in fire safety and public administration, having served with distinction in the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service.
His credentials include membership in prestigious bodies such as the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, alongside leadership training in Nigeria and abroad.
The board praised his professionalism, expecting him to enhance the service’s operational efficiency. The outgoing Controller-General, Abdulganiyu, received commendation for his impactful reforms, including improved emergency response systems.
Adeyemi’s appointment signals a focus on strengthening fire safety infrastructure nationwide, with plans to expand training programs and equipment acquisition. State governors have expressed support, noting the role of a robust fire service in urban development.
The transition has drawn attention from security stakeholders, who anticipate Adeyemi’s leadership will address recent fire incidents in markets and residential areas. The FFS has scheduled a handover ceremony, with Adeyemi set to outline his vision for the agency’s future.
