… Governor Yahaya Cites Progress Amid ACF’s Neglect Allegations

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has spotlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway and the Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line, as evidence of federal commitment to northern development.

The remarks, made during a recent public address, counter claims by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) of infrastructure neglect in the region.

The expressway, a critical trade route, is undergoing rehabilitation with multiple sections now open to traffic, while the rail project aims to enhance connectivity with Niger Republic, boosting cross-border commerce.

Yahaya noted that these initiatives, backed by the current administration, include significant investments in road resurfacing and rail track expansion, with completion timelines set for the coming years.

The governor emphasized that the projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promising economic growth and improved security through better transportation networks.

Northern communities have expressed cautious optimism, with local traders anticipating reduced costs, though some ACF members argue that progress remains slow compared to southern projects.

Construction firms involved reported employing thousands of local workers, adding to the economic impact. The federal government has allocated additional funds to accelerate the works, with oversight committees monitoring milestones.

Opposition voices have called for faster delivery, but Yahaya defended the pace, citing logistical challenges.

The developments are seen as a test of the administration’s ability to fulfill campaign promises, especially as regional leaders prepare for political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
