Senate Denies Tensions With Tinubu Over Legislative Priorities

… Akpabio Reaffirms Alignment With Executive Amid Loan Proposal Scrutiny

The Nigerian Senate dismissed reports of a rift with President Bola Tinubu over the legislative agenda, emphasizing its commitment to collaborative governance.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, speaking after a closed-door session in Abuja, clarified that the Senate’s scrutiny of executive proposals, including a proposed $21 billion foreign loan, is part of its constitutional oversight role, not a sign of discord.

The statement addressed speculations of disagreements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over bill prioritization.

Akpabio stressed that the Senate remains aligned with Tinubu’s administration to advance national development goals, particularly in infrastructure and economic reforms, as both branches navigate critical legislative decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
