Northern Leaders Distance From Atiku, Obi For 2027 Election

.. David Mark Urges New Leadership To Address Regional Challenges

Former Senate President David Mark announced that northern leaders are unlikely to support PDP’s Atiku Abubakar or Labour Party’s Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election, citing the need for new leadership to tackle the region’s socio-economic issues.

Speaking at a political summit in Kaduna, Mark described the North’s challenges, including insecurity and poverty, as largely self-inflicted, calling for a unified regional strategy to prioritize local interests over party loyalties.

The African Democratic Congress also rejected speculation about endorsing Atiku or Obi, indicating a fragmented opposition landscape.

The statement reflects growing sentiment among northern stakeholders to seek fresh political voices as the 2027 elections approach.
